Does anyone have a source for making or know where
I can find the placards that are stuck on the frame rails of the cockpit for a Discus? I have emailed M&H a couple of times but haven't heard from them. Maybe they are escaping the winter to a warm location....... Thanks for the help Brian Iten MB1 |

Brian,
I had my placards made by Signs Now (local sign shop) They are black vinyl over white painted aluminum about .040 thickness. I provided the text, the font size and spacing. $25 later, I had placards to cut out and place where I wanted them. Clark |

Brian,
You can make some yourself if you are handy. Copy the placards in your pilots handbook on to regular copy paper. Get two sheets of light plexiglass at the hardware store (Lowe's). Wax 'em up three or four times with a good grade of paste wax. Laminate the placard sheet between two layers of light fiberglass and place the second sheet of plexi. on top to get a nice finish. West System epoxy is cheap and does well for me, and it's readily available most every where. You can use the same process for othe things like operating limitationa etc., by typing up what you need on you computer. Stick 'em on with your favorite glue (contact cement?). Hope this helps. Guess I should have explained my self a little bit
more. I am not looking for the stickers that are next to the tow release and vent and ...... I am looking for the placards showing the weights, speeds and so on that are stuck just below the canopy frame on the inside of the fuselage. They put a clear plastic coating on the top of the stickers that ends up rolling at the corners from my shoulders rubbing on them while flying. I am starting to think that I might have to design my own and then take them to a sign shop to have them made....... Brian At 19:00 11 January 2005, John Sinclair wrote: SSA's got them. Brian Placards including weights have to be made locally, because the weights depend on the weight and balance of the particular glider, which can change over time due to refinishing, repairs etc. I have used normal paper, but laminated in plastic by a local supplier.Alternatively there are techniques (dye sublimation ?) for printing on prepared thin sheet aluminium. Check with your local trophy engraving shop. Cheers, John G. |

If you want it done right, I recommend engraving. Our laminated paper fades (especially in the sun). If it is punched or engraved, it won't disappear after a few months/years. If I owned a glider that I was going to do mods on every year, I'd get a couple of these printed at a time, and get a punch set for the numbers. Then just pop 'em on when needed. The local locksmith has done lettering and number punching on some items for me in the past, when they didn't have to look to nice... -- ------------+ Mark J. Boyd |

You can download a template from my site at www.mymedtrans.com/personal.htm
Print out on regular paper, laminate with clear shelving paper, then double stick tape. Works great on my club ships, except for some AHole instructors that tear them off with the rationale that you should know all the numbers off the top of your head for all the ships you fly. I redid the interior of my Nimbus 3 this winter and used the laminating
kits available at Staples and other office supply stores for placard replacment. I bought the ones that are the size for laminating a business card. Printed up new placard data on the word processor, sized it, and made laminated cards with the kit. Stuck them on with double sided tape. Looks good - cost less than 10 bucks. BTW - Schemp was able to supply new interior cloth panels that went on easy and came out nice. Roy Roy A.
