Google's satellite maps captures glider on tow!
While browsing Google's new satellite maps, I see one of the shots
captured a tow plane taking a glider up towards Lake Pleasant, AZ (Turf Soaring area). See: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=33.84...7596&t=k&hl=en |

Very cool,
The areas that have the high quality images are spectacular. We can now make turn point books without leaving the office where the resolution is good. Minden is a good example of the different levels of zoom available. It will be great when the entire planet is at the high resolution level. Tim |

That would be great, it would be a lot of pixels though. At 1
ft/pixel, with 30% of the earth's surface being land, gives 1.65e+015 pixels. Just the 3-byte RGB data would be about 1500 TB. It's many times that when you add all the fancy data at multiple resolutions. ttaylor at cc.usu.edu wrote: Very cool, The areas that have the high quality images are spectacular. Follow the canal until the second bridge over it. The airfield is lust east of the canal. -- Bruce | 41.1670S | \ spoken | -+- Hoult | 174.8263E | /\ here. | ----------O---------- |

Eeek ... so much for proofreading and spelling :-( Another method: zoom out three levels from the pic given by the original URL and the airfield is in bottom right corner. -- Bruce | 41.1670S | \ spoken | -+- Hoult | 174.8263E | /\ here. | ----------O---------- |
