lets see.. I would remember the 10 mile restriction in my brain (and on my
note pad) while flying direct to XYZ... then direct to ABC... and then in
VOR (OBS) mode tune and fly the 131 radial outbound from ABC.... I'd also
check the charts to see if DEF is a "direct to" DEF.

This is only from memory as I have not flown often with the Garmin
430-530-1000 systems. But have in the past.

Is there a simple way to program the Garmin to handle in-flight route
instructions such as :

"Pass 10 miles N of XYZ at 10,000 ft" or "Continue inbound to ABC, then
the 131 radial to DEF..."

I can make user waypoints, but it seems a little slow and awkward,
especially in hard IFR. Any tricks?

Thanks,

Michael

This leads to another question. Lets say I'm flying a 150 heading to XYZ. I
receive the instruction "Pass 10 miles N of XYZ at 10,000 ft". Does that
mean continue my present heading and 10 from XYZ be at 10,000 feet, or does
it mean find the waypoint that is 10 miles N on the 360 radial and pass that
point at 10,000 feet?

then direct to ABC... and then in

check the charts to see if DEF is a "direct to" DEF.

Woudn't it have to be direct given a radial?

Michael.. do not take the N/S/E/W literally..

maintain your current course.. 150 or direct to XYZ.. you are heading
approx.. SSE (135being SE and 180 being S).. so when you are 10nm NNW or N
you should be at the restriction given..

If you alter course to intercept the XYZ360010, you could be violated for
not following the ground track given.
