I've been using the trial version of Keyhole (a VERY cool program,
available for download at http://www.keyhole.com/) to explore Dulles International, in a vain attempt to figure out how in the world I'm supposed to taxi to the Udvar-Hazy Center. See http://www.alexisparkinn.com/DullesFromKeyhole.jpg Can any of you DC-ites tell me where, on that photo, the Center is? Thanks, -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I may be wrong from memory, but isn't it off the bottom of the page (if
north is to the top)? It seems like a haul from the terminal based on what I saw from the Hazy observation deck.... Kind of like OSH taxiing! ryan Jay Honeck wrote: I've been using the trial version of Keyhole (a VERY cool program, available for download at http://www.keyhole.com/) to explore Dulles International, in a vain attempt to figure out how in the world I'm supposed to taxi to the Udvar-Hazy Center. Jay,
the annex has a taxi way extension from Juliet (if memory serves me correctly). The taxi way is there it is just which one I cannot remember. You basically taxi to 1R and keep going strait. It may be on the airport diagram. Smithsonian Hat ON
Just so everyone knows Jay is coming in for part of a special event. "Reach for the Sky: Become a Pilot" Family Day and Aviation Display on June 11th. The museum doesn't have a "Taxiway" but rather a "Tow Road" that can be used to taxi in for special events. There are two locked gates between the airport and the museum. Smithsonian Hat OFF I think most people wish we could just taxi down to the museum and it's my understanding that was the original plan, but that was pre 9/11. One of the building guys said the original plan had an airside pilot lounge (of course that would probably have been the last thing built and the maintenance facility and archives still aren't fully funded) Margy Michelle P wrote: Jay, the annex has a taxi way extension from Juliet (if memory serves me correctly). Reminds me of the joke about the Bonanza salesman that was trying to sell the Cessna 180 owner/rancher on the virtures of the low wing. Finally, the rancher tells the sales man, "If you can follow me to my hangar, I'll buy your Bonanza." The salesman taxis out and takes off behind the 180, following the rancher to his private airstrip. After landing the salesman thinks the sale is in the bag, until he comes to the taxiway leading to the hangar. His jaw drops as he watches the 180 taxi through a gap in the barbed wire fence between two fence posts, the high wings easily clearing the tops of the tall posts. |

![]() Jay, it's right he http://www.nasm.si.edu/visit/directions_uhc.cfm (But you don't have to know where it is before you take a taxi to it. Though you might want to ensure that the cabbie knows! New York is infested with cabbies for whom both the city and the language is a mystery.) (And if you get a DC cab, settle the fare in advance. They don't use meters in DC so that the Congress can set fares totheir advantage. VA bans them from picking up fares, at least at Washington National, but the cabbies used to hang around pretending to adjust things in the trunk. Travelers in the know would get a cheap trip back into town.) Jay,
Make sure you know the location of P-40/R-4009 (Camp David) when you are coming in from the North. Is this going to be a Taylorcraft trip?
