Does anyone have information about the Long Easy accident at Sunrise Sky
Park, Melba, Idaho, that killed Davey Jones? I believer the accident occurred June 28th. There was very little news coverage. All I have heard is that it was a landing accident and that the passenger survived. Wayne http://www.soaridaho.com/ |

This was discussed in the Yahoo Groups for "canard aviators"
Mr Dave Jones was the pilot, and had reportedly been experimenting with vortex generators on the main wing and canards trying to improve slow speed handling. This was the first flight with the new configuration of VG's with a PASSENGER aboard. While doing touch and go's, one of the main wings dropped/rolled, and the aircraft struck the runway hard, shearing/breaking the main gear, damaging the prop and ending up in a ditch. (third hand information) I do not know if he hit wings level or not. Mr Jones initially survived the event but quickly and progressively succumbed to what is believed to be internal bleeding (my speculation, as a medical guy). He expired in the presence of emergency personnel and was unable to be revived. His passenger was able to exit the aircraft and I am unsure if he was hospitalized at all. The deceased's wife forwarded the following to the Canard Aviator's group: A remembrance gathering for Dave Jones will be held July 4th at 10 AM at Sunrise Skypark. Whether you can join us or not, I know your thoughts and prayers will be with us. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be erected in Dave's memory here at the Skypark. I am personally not involved with this incident, nor do I know the accident pilot or the others involved. Merely repeating what has been discussed elsewhere.
