Cory,
As someone that uses Kelly's, help me figure out what in the world their poorly worded ad really means.... With a Kelly Aerospace oil filter, you get more. . .for less! Independent laboratory test proves our filter performs equivalent to the competition with six (6) less pleats. OK, which one has 6 less pleats? This could be read either way. Precision cut threads. Leaf spring versus a coiled spring (nothing like 20 years of proven experience). Equivalent can burst pressure and no need to purchase a new can cutting tool. Upon close inspection, our filter's only "shortcoming" is our height, but since it is shorter than the competitor's original filter we guarantee if it fit before it will fit now! Ok, so which one is shorter? the Kelly or the Champion -1? when they say original, do they mean the Champion non-1 filters? So, assuming that the Kelly's have more material, are they longer than the Champion -1's, shorter than the non -1's, and which one has 6 less pleats? Thanks Jim |

OK, which one has 6 less pleats? This could be read either way. I wondered this also. The way I read it, Kelly is saying that their product has "6 less pleats" but performs equivalent to the Champion because of the filter material that Kelly uses. and no need to purchase a new can cutting tool. Upon close inspection, our filter's only "shortcoming" is our height, but since it is shorter than the competitor's original filter we guarantee if it fit before it will fit now! This is an odd statement in an ad where the Kelly and Champion filters are shown side by side--the Kelly filter looks taller to me. I guess they claim that it's shorter than the competitor's "original" filter, but in the picture, they show it next to a Champion -1 filter. Why would you make a statement like that and then place a picture in the same ad that shows your filter as taller? They may have good products, but it looks like they need some better marketing folks. JKG |

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to find this a bit confusing.... I keep
having the distinct feeling of getting BS'd by a fast talking salesman every time I try to figure it out. Jim |

You're right... that is confusing. Actually, my original post wasn't very clear either. What I was *trying* to say is that I'm not thrilled about the -1 introduction. I'd rather have the original 48110 filter, since it's larger. With the smaller replacement, it just furthers my interest in using the less expensive Kelly's. I've used both kinds and cut them both open. Can't really say yay or nay on either, truthfully. I like the larger nut on the Kelly's, though. -Cory -- ************************************************** *********************** * Cory Papenfuss * * Electrical Engineering candidate Ph.D. graduate student * * Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University * ************************************************** *********************** |
