Anyone using an Aviat Husky A1-B, 180 hp, as a tow-plane? I just purchased
one w/ tow hook and would be interested in hearing the experience of others. This Husky also has an 80" Hartzell for improved climb (stock is 76"). * * * FS, beautiful 46' Aeronca Champ 7AC "tow-plane" . . . ah, er, doesn't have a tow hook yet - - and with only 65 hp you might be limited as to what you can tow (g). Contact for details and pics. In US, qualifies LSA. -- bumper ZZ (reverse all after @) "Dare to be different . . . circle in sink." |

Bob's towed for my club in the past and this past winter while our
Pawnee was re-engined. The Husky is a fine tow plane and has appreciated in value at an amazing rate. Frank Whiteley |

Hi,
There are several Husky's used for towing here in the midwest. As mentioned in a previous post Bob Lynn owns one and tows for many contests. Lee Bradshaw owns a Husky that we used at the Region 7 Soaring Contest this year. The Chicago Glider Club also brought their Husky for towing at the contest. I think they make great towplanes! I towed behind one from Mammoth Lakes last month in
an ASW-15: 7100' MSL, over 10K' density altitude and I was very impressed with the climb. It probably was no more than 6 minutes to 10K'. -Dave At 15:36 19 August 2005, Bumper wrote: Anyone using an Aviat Husky A1-B, 180 hp, as a tow-plane? Butch Thompson at Mifflin has used one for years. Seems to handle all
sort of ships with aplomb. P3 |

I have towed with this plane for about 6 years now. All around strong
towplane, close to the level of a 235 Pawnee, but not as desirable in stong winds. Not much is as good as a Pawnee in the wind. P3 should know, I have had him "on the hook" often!
