A Sad Day for the Aerobatic Community

The US Unlimited Team and friends are saddened to announce the passing
of Marta Meyer today in Yukon, OK.
Marta was an Unlimited Team member for two years and the Team Manager
this year in Spain where she was awarded the "Most Valuable Volunteer"
award for being the last minute warm-up pilot for the competition. She
has been a fixture in the aerobatic community for over 20 years. She and
her husband Bob built and flew the Giles 300 in many Unlimited
competitions. She worked for NASA and was one of two women ever to fly
in the SR-71 Blackbird.

Marta Meyer, 45, is an aeronautical engineer and manager for NASA at
Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California. From a family where
"airplane was spoken," Marta took up aerobatics when she was 18. When
she met her husband, Bob-also an aerobatic pilot-she began competing.
She and Bob fly a Giles G-300 aerobatic aircraft that they helped
design. With about 50 contests to her credit, she was the 1993 U.S.
Advanced Champion and won the 1998 Fond du Lac Cup. This is her second
time on the U.S. Unlimited Aerobatic Team. Marta has logged more than
7,000 hours total time and more than 1,500 in aerobatics and looks
forward to the World Aerobatic Championship. "I am proud to be a team
member, and I want to put in a good performance," she states. Marta
lives in Quartz Hill, California.
