Go no-go decision went bad. Oops.
http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S15095.html?cat=1 click Video for the FULL explanation. 'Engine was running rough on taxi, so he thought he'd take it UP and check it out in the air.' Oops. '...Engine had just come back from overhaul/rebuild.' Oops. Montblack ...still propless. Jack - My sniff, sniff ex-boat is stored in the barn at the edge of the clearing. You just catch a glimpse of the house. Being that my sister bought our boat, I still have visitation rights :-) That's the St Croix River on the map (border between MN and WI). When a boat is running rough, or we're on a shakedown "cruise" ...we always head upstream, first. g |

'Engine was running rough on taxi, so he thought he'd take it UP and check it out in the air.' Oops. Wow. Talk about bass-ackwards... Although I suppose it depends on what they mean by "running rough" -- but it sure points out the fact that it's better to trouble-shoot on the ground. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

At least he had the foresight to land gear up. That looks like an unusually
long skid for a belly landing. I guess the snow lowered the ground drag. "Michael Ware" wrote in message . .. "Montblack" wrote in message ... Go no-go decision went bad. Yes, he handled the emergency well enough (or he got lucky). Of course, the whole situation was easily avoidable. |

Geez, yes; there's, what, ground test, static test, bench test, and flight test. Four options and he picked the worst one possible. |

Ah, I would have only seen the barn, not the boat. Not quite the same thing but, hey, thanks for the thought :-) I'm sure the boat be non-prop less someday. -- Jack Allison PP-ASEL-Instrument Airplane Arrow N2104T "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return" - Leonardo Da Vinci (Remove the obvious from address to reply via e-mail) |

When I do something that turns out to be a really bad idea like this...
I only hope no one gets on TV to broadcast my misguided thought process. It makes my story to the FAA harder to fabricate.
