Thanks for the reply. However I better check the plumbing myself
and will probably try to zero it myself. If the plumbing is bad,
Winter won't find anything wrong and will have to charge me for the
diagnosis and shipping, and I'll have no instrument while I'm waiting.

However, I don't think I will try adding paint at this time. I may
later
if other solutions fail, or I may send it to Winter.

Some years ago in a posting about the same topic, somebody (I do not
remember the name) recommended:
"If your VSI reads too high, extend the spoilers a little bit, untill your
vario shows the expected value."

For some reason, even full extension doesn't get me to the expected value
when checking the panel, pre-flight.
