That is not a comparable situation. A lot of people cared about the
rights of blacks, including many who were not black. Virtually nobody
cares about the rights of pilots except the pilots themselves, and
pilots are a small minority of the population.

You need broad popular support to get things done. If the greater
consensus of opinion conflicts with yours, calling attention to your
cause may have exactly the opposite effect of what you were hoping
for.
