I think the C-47 was fairly fast.
One trip, in a different aircraft, that took a while was one from Moffett Field Naval Air Station in California to Tokyo, Japan in 1947. We went in a C-54 and the trip took five days!! There were night stops in Hawaii, Kwajalein, Guam and Johnston Island. It was a MATS flight and they were in no hurry. I wasn't aircrew, I was a passenger. To put it into perspective.....we went to Moffet Field from San Francisco. Getting to San Francisco also was a five day trip.....across the US from Philadelphia by train. Pullman cars, dining cars, etc made it a real experience. There's nothing like the French toast the cooks served in the morning on that train!! I lived in Japan from when I was four until I was eleven, Tom in Pensacola "Jim" wrote in message ... AND the C-47 was considered new and very fast. |

Ahhh, the golden age of travel.
I don't go that far back though. I still like the train better than air. |
