G-Cup South Pennsylvania - New Jersey Monday November 02, 2009 - 05:53 The 2009 G-cup is over and an upstart group of XC pilots from Brandywine Soaring have taken the GS South trophy - ending the 15 year dynasty held by Aero Club Albatross. The BSA team accomplished this amazing feat by launching a sustained series of long-winged cruise missiles from their rebel base … taking the overall club lead … and putting many BSA pilots in the top scoring spots. This may not be a fluke as the BSA team members are all accomplished contest pilots and will probably repeat next season. PGC came in a distant third - but should not be counted out as they have a good roster and could easily mount a substantial threat if they get serious about XC. Tune in next season … it should be exciting. KK |

KK Doubly devastating to me is the fact that I had pre-engraved the team trophies for the remainder of the decade withe Aero Club Albatross (ACA) as the victors. This could cost me some serious bucks. All kidding aside, congratulatoins to the BSA team for mounting a real challenge. With a total club size less than half of either of the other major contenders, it's a serious accomplishment. Erik Mann SSA State Governer, NJ |

Isn't that the Gus Scheurer Trophy? If so, I thought you just had to
fly 100km to land at the place which had possession? Have the rules changed? Great news that someone else now has it! Screwed up on my Gold triangle out of Blairstown, and didn't declare Colts Neck then Pottstown Limerick. Could have taken the Gus Scheurer Trophy for CJSC with a launch from the ACA home site and towed by the legendary Captain Curt. Jim |

The GCup was one of the first decentralized, Internet-based soaring contests starting way back in 1997. First year individual winner was none other than UM - The Scoundrel - of CJSC fame. At some point, the Gus Schurer trophy got lost, though ACA has revived it in the last 5 years or so. |
