The NTSB is concerned about ELT mountings. This came out of the
Ted Stevens crash. I'd have thought the ELT would have a integral antenna with some kind of switching scheme, but I guess not. http://www.ntsb.gov/Recs/letters/2010/A-10-169-170.pdf -- A host is a host from coast to & no one will talk to a host that's close........[v].(301) 56-LINUX Unless the host (that isn't close).........................pob 1433 is busy, hung or dead....................................20915-1433 |

One thing the NTSB might be thinking of is older ELTs that have had thier mounts degraded over time. I have seen some held in with ty wraps or velcro. Really that is a maintenance issue but that's not consolation when the ELT comes adrift in a crash. |
