Default Position recorders for badges

What is the status and expected time frame to have the FlywithCE_FR300

Why does the approval take so long compare to other countries?

Many thanks,
Uwe

Unless (until?) the IGC approves gps altitude to be used for badges, a
position recorder like the FlywithCE can only be used for Silver and
Gold flights, if the NAC approves it. Even when (if) the IGC approves
GPS altitude to be used I believe, but am not 100% sure, that that
will still only apply to silver and gold. For that reason, in the US,
a FlywithCE cannot be used for diamond badge legs, diploma's, or
national records. *They can be used for state records, which only
require documentation to the silver badge level.

The only thing under consideration by the IGC is allowing GPS altitude
evidence for Silver and Gold badges (and world altitude records, but
that is a different issue). Some position recorders do record
pressure altitude, and where the NAC approves, may now be used on
their own for Silver and Gold badges, otherwise a separate barograph
is needed for altitude evidence. If this changes, it will no doubt be
well publicized.

Diamond badges, diplomas, and world records require an IGC approved
flight recorder of appropriate level, whether or not GPS altitude
evidence ends up being permissible (or required) in certain cases...
