XH558 is a charity trust so all the money raised can only be spent on XH558,
it receives no official funding at all, every penny has to be raised and accounted for by the trust. Hopefully if things go well and the modifications can be done she will be flying for some years to come. one sat on the ground does nothing to show how amazing and graceful they are in the air for such a big plane, its good that some try to keep one in the air and not just a memory for those that saw them fly and a stories for the next generation "Netko" wrote in message ... This will probably sound heretical but I can't help thinking that there are better ways of spending this sort of money than on keeping XH558 in the air for the few hours it has left. Like a splash of paint on XM597, for example. |

Rather I was trying to point out that a high-profile, high-cost - but ultimately very limited - endeavour like keeping a Vulcan flying will tend to divert scarce resources from other, less ambitious projects in the field of aviation history. I don't mean to sound churlish. I just feel that the sums of money involved would yield much greater value in the long run if spent in other, less dramatic, ways. |

you could be right about money going to other projects ( i would love to see
more WWII aircraft flying again). It is an expensive plane to keep flying the total they need to raise and keep it in the air up to end of June is £800 000, which could be spent on getting some different planes in the air. This could be its last year of flying its now coming to the limit of the flying hours AVRO ever tested on the frames, even if the modifications can be done to the wings, it might no give it much more flying time anyway if it does work. hopefully money will go to other projects in time and we can get to see other great aircraft fly once again "Netko" wrote in message ...
