This is a good one!
http://www.ssa.org/Contests?cid=2256...eter+Nationals I was a little hazy on #4, so had to do a little digging. I didn't think he was old enough for a glider pilot's license in 1970 :-). The other three were pretty obvious. Contest report in Soaring mag October 1970... written by Old Dog Wolters ("Letter from Elmira" -- great read)! Next best thing to a time machine. -Evan Ludeman / T8 |

Interesting that only one of them is still flying Standard Class. I took the challenge, too. I was hazy on which one was number 4, too, but I was debating someone else.

Steve Leonard After reading Old Dog's article, I think there may be some father/son confusion. I'm not convinced there are really four! I guess we'll find out! -Evan |

Nice to see an Eastern contest get some decent weather. Man, if I'd known *that* was going to happen.... -Evan |

You'll also see a lot of variety in how good the conditions are in just one flight. It's a place for the expert gear-shifter to excel. At least it's not the usual H&H crap they often get this time of year. Matt |

The prospect of *typical* Elmira late July wx, Nats pressure and late July crops put me off. That and I fared about as well as Cecil the Lion in the two 15m Nats I've flown. -Evan |
