Friends, Where are schools that have a readily available DPE for an initial CFIG? Terry, I'm pretty sure Burt Compton can meet your needs at Marfa, Texas. He provides excellent training. Delbert |

Not sure if Rick Kohler at Sundance Aviation in Moriarty can do an initial, but I did mu G add-on with him. Great outfit and a relaxed atmosphere. A very thorough oral and practical test. You'll know what you don't know when you leave there.

Terry,
Bermuda High Soaring (http://www.bermudahighsoaring.com/) in South Carolina is a soaring school with instructors who will prepare you for the initial CFIG. They also have a local DPE that does initial CFIGs. Last I heard, Big Sky Jet (http://www.ssa.org/OpText.asp?site=136), a commercial soaring operation in Bozeman, MT. offered training and the DPE was doing initial CFIGs. Mark |

I fly the tugs at Sundance. I don't think Rick does initial CFIG
checks, but we have an FAA inspector available for that. thanks everyone for the input. I exchanged email with a few ASIs and DPEs and got the straight story concerning INITIAL CFI practicals.
Initial CFIs are conducted by FAA ASIs, unless there is no one available, in which case the local FSDO will bring in a local DPE who conducts add-ons and reinstatements. You send a request to the FSDO, and they have 2 weeks get you a checkride. the process is described in section 5-499 in this document: http://fsims.faa.gov/wdocs/8900.1/v0...02_011rev1.htm |

Knut Kjenslie at Seminole Lake GP in central FL might still be able to....he was a DPE....if not still a DPE, he is an excellent (and tough) instructor... he might be a source of training for CFIG

When I did my initial glider CFI. I asked our local glider DPE. He went to the FSDO and got approval to do the initial.
I did not have to contact the FSDO. BillT |
