But over the last thirty years or so a liberal arts "education" has
increasingly taught students to "think" only one way. True enough. My political science professors were all proud, card-carrying Communists. Capitalism was the absolute bane of all existence, in their world. However, that kind of propaganda-laden education ultimately only works on the weak-minded, and often has precisely the opposite effect on students. I think the Reagan Revolution was pretty good evidence of that. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

But that's why I'm a (rare) proponent of a liberal arts education. The broader (some might say "more useless" :-) education of a liberal arts degree goes a long way toward teaching one to think, study, and learn. And that, in the end, is all you can really hope to achieve in college. Jay, I hate to tell you this but it's the Liberal Art's colleges and programs that are at the foundation of our wretched education systems. |

Ah...no, they teach (roughly) that thinking is impotent, reality doesn't exist and a slew of other noxious "ideas". And it's not the last thirty years, but more like the 1920's and John Dewey. |

True enough. My political science professors were all proud, card-carrying Communists. Capitalism was the absolute bane of all existence, in their world. Uh huh!! And what is the foundation of Economics and Politics as taught in academia? However, that kind of propaganda-laden education ultimately only works on the weak-minded, and often has precisely the opposite effect on students. It works on our youth that receive such indoctrination from elementary school onward. Remember the book "Why Johnnie Can't Read"? Now there's another on out "Why Johnnie Can't Think". Seriously. I think the Reagan Revolution was pretty good evidence of that. What revolution? Increased government by double and re-arranged some, but other than that... |

If it make you feel any better, I screw up apostrophes all the time, too.) -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

Nice to see you can cut right through to essentials. Hey...I hope your descendants can live in the world you've help to create. What on earth are you ranting about? Figure it out...you can do it, you're so brilliant and educated. Well, here's a hint: 600 years ago, the Arab world was the center on learning and science. Okay, bright boy, let's see that brilliance you seem to claim. |

I really don't think Usenet postings on a Saturday morning are that crucial. Phil, on the other hand, needs his ego boost any way he can get it. |
