750 mile flights in Tennessee
Saturday, April 7th turned out to be a day to remember for soaring
pilots in Tennessee. For several months now, Chilhowee Gliderport has conducted satellite operations on good ridge days from the Marion County airport of Sequatchie Valley. On April 7th four pilots took tows, and the results are as follows: Bill Elliott and Rand Baldwin each completed 1000k tasks with declared start and finish points located 65 miles up the ridge from their take- off location. Total distance for the flights was approximately 760 miles. Dave Stevenson flew 972 km in his Ka-6 averaging over 100 km/h! Now that's a lot of flying in a wood glider. Kevin Anderson launched in his 1-26 on a 500k attempt but landed out after a difficult upwind transition for a total of 344 km flown. To view flight logs go to the OLC page listed he http://www3.onlinecontest.org/olc-2....th=04&day =07 The pilots wish to thank William Henley who left Chilhowee before 7 AM in order to provide the early morning tows needed for such long flights. |

I have got to get the Cherokee down there for oktoberfest one of these years. 100 km/h in a Ka-6. Dave Stephenson is a god! 344 km in a 1-26 is nothing to be ashamed of either. Congrats to all! |
