Why did Spitfire pilots wear uniforms under their flying gear during the
Battle of Britain? The public couldn't see them.


In case they got captured. No uniform and they could be shot as spies.

Also, the brits have a fetish about appearances. BA pilots do their sim in
uniform, for instance.
