Can I connect aluminum AN fittings to steel hose ends? I am
planning on using Earl's Speed-Flex hose with Speed-Seal hose ends on my Avid Mark IV with Grove gear and Matco brakes. Will there be corrosion from the mating of dissimilar metals? Thanks. |

Will there be corrosion from the mating of dissimilar metals? Thanks. I have the exact configuration on my Zenith 801 experimental. Been that way for 4 years and I just finished my conditional inspection this week. Virtually no sign of dissimilar metal corrosion... YMMV Ben www.haaspowerair.com |

Short answer: no problem. Long answer: Aluminum fittings are already corrosion-protected (either anodized or some other treatment). In addition, there is usually a small amount of oil or some other lubricant on the fitting, which stops water intrusion. Not familiar with the Earl's hose ends. Are those for aircraft or automotive? Aircraft fittings have a 37 degree flare, autos have a 45 degree. Not compatible at all. Dan |

Dan As I recall, Earl's started their business selling surplus aviation hoses and fitting to the auto racing crowd. They have since expanded upon that base by engineering and having manufactured their own compatible products. Charles A lot of the racing guys use AN stuff, rather than automotive, since AN is available in aluminum. |
