Default Skymap IIIC Mounting Options

Hello, group I was looking at mounts for my Skymap IIIC GPS I am wanting to
use either a Gimble Mount or a Pedastal Mount for mounting my Skymap IIIC in
my 150M, This will require 3 to 4 small holes to be drilled, Will this type
of mount require a field approval? I Just dont want to buy somthing other
than a yoke mount and not be able to have it installed! I think the yoke
mount is a
bad idea as I want to keep my eyes looking outside rather than inside.

Hi there

I am in the UK and tried this..I was told that any mount above the
instrument panel on the flat surface would be obstructing my view , and the
CAA would not permit it...the only other space I had was way over on the
right , IN the panel where a glovebox was (grumman AA5-A) this is where it
ended up , and its NOT good there believe me!

good luck !

We tried a Gimbal Mount on the passenger side for use with a
SkyforceII which tended to stick out of the panel too far and was not
satisfactory. Reflections on the screen were the problem.

In the end we fitted it on a fixed angled mount, slightly recessed on
the left side, which was all signed off when the new avionics were
fitted.

Have a look at the following pictures, which may help:

I tried each of these and ended up just getting the RAM mount for the
yoke. The mount is big a bulky and hits my knees. I couldn't figure
out a way to attach the Pedastal mount in my tight Mooney. I've had my
IIIc for several years now and just bought the new Garmin 296 (they
finally got terrain too). I guess I'll be selling the IIIc. The one
thing I liked better about the IIIc were the airway display on the
map. It was sure easy to turn onto an airway in the turb when you
could see it drawn right there on the display. I'll miss that when
going to the Garmin.

That would be nice to do but this is a Cessna 150 and my panel is full, I
was thinking above the compass see hand held photo
http://www.warflying.net/sm3.jpg I could faberacate a mount that could use
one of the holes for the compass

I appreciate the problem but the Skyforce so near to the compass would
no doubt require a compas swing. Additionally the wiring is likely to
induce changes in the magnetic field as the GPS draws more or less
current. I suspect the compass variations would not be acceptable!

We had to use a VOR/ILS indicator with DME built in as the panel space
would not accommodate the DME when we fitted dual NAV/COM.

Good luck.

I have installed the rail mount for my AvMap. I have a 172 and it fit perfect.
I think I paid $109.00

Here's a pic of our yoke-mounted AvMap, which is the same size (I think) as
your Skymap:

Or, try this if the url wraps:

It doesn't block any of the Sacred Six instruments, and the map is right
where I want it.

I am going to go with the seat rail Ram-mount will keep it out of the way a
150's yoke is to small.

Still prefer my rail mount in my 172.
When in strong Florida sunlight I can tilt it to almost any angle.
