Garmin 430 question
With a waypoint on my 430 and pressing the OBS button my 430 draws a
"radial". The radial that is on the obs indicator. What i don't understand is why the radial showing on the display is white and not magenta? The reciprical of the radial is magenta. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Thanks Steve |

Steve,
I'm probably stating the obvious here, but I think the magenta line is "to" and the white line is "from". I often use the OBS for vfr approach, especially going to a new field. So if the rwy is 27 and assuming i'm generally east of the airport, I set the obs to 27 and intercept the magenta line (now i'm on the 27 radial to the field -- and the 90 radial from the field) Maybe this helps. are you using an HSI or a normal nav head? my 430 drives my HSI, anytime I select OBS the HSI control the white line, you move the HSI and the line moves. Its going to take me a while to get that figured out correctly. Jeff SD Thomson wrote: Steve, I'm probably stating the obvious here, but I think the magenta line is "to" and the white line is "from". I've got the garmin CDI, so I'm not really sure how the OBS function should work with an HSI. Have you downloaded the Garmin 400 Series Simulator? (If you bought the unit it should have been included with the documentation -- I also got a pretty informative video) The simulator incorporates an HSI. I played around with it and it seems that if I set the OBS to the same general course as the waypoint, I get a magenta line. Stuart "Jeff" wrote in message ... yes I have the CD and play with it, but I hate using my mouse to click the
knobs... I dont use the OBS at all (so far), I leave it in GPS mode and put the HSI on the heading that the 430 says and the auto pilot flies the line perfectly...love it...I had the garmin nav head in my last plane, the HSI is so much better.
