What is the best way to get to Hoover Dam? Where is the closest airport
to rent a car from?

Do take the time to overfly the dam on the way in, its a fabulous
site from the air, but of course "don't linger". There is typically a
high density of tour traffic over the area, including helicopters at
3000'. The tradition is to self-announce on the grand canyon
frequency (120.65). You'll hear people saying things like "...
right turns above the dam at 3500". Boulder City is 8 miles
to the south west.

Hey, that's not funny. I"m actually (technically) a float plane CFI,
but I don't have access to one to fly the family around in, so all
travels must be done in the Mooney.

Cool, that was what I was looking for. I wasn't sure where in the state
the thing was even located. Knowing the nearest public airport get me
on track!
Thanks!

I'll bet someone has figured out how to put floats on a Mooney.

If someone has pictures of one, show the links!;-)

Don't they blow you out of the water when you go past the lines and get too
close?
