I recently told a fellow he should be using a different cam in his engine. Later messages made it clear I had been talking to the wrong guy. (I get lots of mail.) Trouble is, now I can't remember WHO I was talking to. So here's a general retraction, cross-posted. If you're planning to fly behind a stock 1600cc VW engine I think you should keep the stock cam. That assumes you're swinging a long, efficient prop at 2500 to 3000 rpm. The cam I referred you toward does fine on big-bore strokers but does WORSE than the stock cam when used on engines having displacement of 120cid or less. (Stock is about 96cid; 1834 is about 112.) If you went ahead and bought the other cam, I'll buy it off you. -R.S.Hoover |
