I am looking for some really good, inspirational soaring stories; short stories, books, whatever. What's the very best out there?

Gren Siebels books are by far the best ever written to fill this role:

Pilot's Choice
A Gaggle of One
Turnpoints
After All

Get them all, they are 'must haves' for any soaring library. Pilot's
Choice and Gaggle are harder to find and can be spendy when you do,
but Turnpoints and After All are available through SSA's bookstore
still. I may have an extra copy of Pilots Choice BTW.

Soaring for Diamonds by Joeseph Lincoln is pretty good too, and also
easy to find. Once Upon A Thermal by Richard Walters is also decent
and easy to come by. I think I have extras of both of them as well.

Two that may not be all that easy to find in the US, but....

"The Leading Edge" by Dick Georgeson, the first pilot to do all his Gold
legs in NZ and a pioneer of xc flying in wave.

"On Being a Bird" by Philip Wills, who set the first xc distance record
claimed in the UK and was 1952 World Champion.

And two that should be quite easy:

"Once upon a Thermal" by Dick Wolters. Tells his story from deciding to
take up soaring to winning his first contest. He tells a good story.

"I learned to fly for Hitler" by Joe Volman. Not so much gliding
inspiration, though there's a lot of gliding in it, but a fascinating
take on WW2 through the eyes of an all-American kid who spent his war in
Germany.

"Kronfeld on Gliding and Soaring" - Robert Kronfeld

The "Four-On-the-Floor-Gang" Story written by Streideck at al and
published in Soaring. IMO, the all-time best story ever written about
X-C soaring.

A second story written by Schuemann et al and published in Soaring
about X-C ridge running in snow storms is also excellent. The
"unsantized" version of the story is even better.

You can buy old copies from the National Soaring Museum or you can
wait or someone may scan a copy. There is an SSA project to put all
old Soaring copies on the web.

Not sure about the Schuemann article, may be indexed under another
