Who would have thought?

Bits of metal, doped up fabric, an engine which you had to start by HAND, a
rickety seat, a stick, basic instruments, if any, and off you go into the
air . . .

Now that takes guts!

Thank you for those shots, sir. They are very impressive as well as those
very early aircrafts.

A lot of these things are flown by airline pilots, which makes
sense, given that they want to FLY and their jobs now revolve
around instrument and computer monitoring.............

True in many professions - a few years ago I got permission to set up
my 8" telescope overnight in the parking lot at Kitt Peak and had a
steady stream of the professional astronomers coming out to take a
look at Jupiter & various summer nebulae, things they never saw
anymore because they were sitting at a computer in order to run their
research data collection.
