After quick observations, I noticed that fuel range in certified aircraft is
slightly lower than comparable hombuilt aircraft. Anybody agree with this? Toks Desalu |

Toks Desalu It's pretty difficult to compare homebuilts to certified aircraf. Homebuilts are often lighter, more narrow and almost always more slippery. In addition, Homebuilts usually do not have similar fuel tank sizes. For instance, the Christavia Mk4 I'm building is _roughly_ comparable to the Cessna 172 in performance. But the Christavia specs two wing tanks at 12 to 14 gallons each plus an optional fuselage tank that might hold another 8 to 10 or so for a total of maybe 30 or 32 gallons. The C172 holds 54 gallons, 52 useable. At 10 gallons per hour, the 172 is flying for more than 5 hours, longer if you throttle back. The Christavia is only in the air for 3 hours. What airplanes were you thinking of for comparison purposes? Corky Scott |
