Default Steering turnpoint radius at WGC

Each day the task includes a steering turnpoint to line the gliders up
with the active runway. Sometimes the steering point has a radius of
1000m (1km) and sometimes it has a radius of 2km.

I tried to find an association between runway in use, or task type,
and the radius but have found none.

Why does the radius change. Surely not a deliberate trap for the
unwary?

It is 1km for Racing Tasks and 2km for Area Tasks now. Might have been
different on the first dayay it was used.

They are also setting 2km on some racing tasks. The idea is to
separate classes. For example is 15 meter is coming in straight from
the south, they get a 1 km circle. Then if 18m is coming in from the
west they get a 2 km circle, so that they're not turning exactly where
15m is coming through.

I assume the concern is :

7.5 TURN POINTS AND ASSIGNED AREAS
7.5.1 A Turn Point is a way point between two legs of a flight. The
Observation Zone of a Turn Point is the airspace in a vertical
cylinder of 500 m radius centered on a Turn Point.

which appears to give no to option to change the radius.
