Emergency Floor Lights

Hello,

Please can someone tell me what happens during an emergency on an
aircraft, with regard to the lighting and sounds:

Do the Exit signs light up? Or are they always lit up during a flight?
Do the main cieling lights remain on?
Do the passenger lights (above the seats) remain on?
Are the emergency floor lights all one colour? or are they colour
coded in some way to guide passengers to the nearest exit?

Also, are there any alarms or announcements that are made during an
emergency?

They have a battery backup. They will light up if the electrical power fails.
I'm not sure as to their normal operation.

Depends on whether someone shuts them off and whether you loose power.

Depends on if power is lost.

coded in some way to guide passengers to the nearest exit?

They are all the same, there are several close together to indicate when you
actually reach the exit row.

emergency?

No alarms. The flight crew/cabin attendents will make announcements.

The emergency lights are controlled by either of two switches.
The three position cockpit switch (off/armed/on) is in the guarded
armed position for flight. A warning light illuminates if it is not.
When armed, the battery pack powered emergency lights turn on
whenever the #1 DC Bus fails or AC power is switched off.

A second switch is at a flight attendant panel in the cabin.
This two position switch (normal/on) is usually in the guarded
normal position. Switching either switch on will illuminate the
lights if the automatic circuitry fails.

Do the main cieling lights remain on?

No.

Do the passenger lights (above the seats) remain on?

Only those on the edge of the stowage bins above the aisle
and near the exits.

Are the emergency floor lights all one colour? or are they colour
coded in some way to guide passengers to the nearest exit?

The floor litestrips glow a lite green but may be covered
by a colored filter to set the area near exits apart.
Several 'glow in the dark' signs are located in handy locations.


Also, are there any alarms or announcements that are made during an
emergency?

Only the announcement made by flight crew or attendant
to the best of my knowlege.
This info may be dated since new/better features are added
as soon as practical i.e. the floor strips that were added as
soon as they realized that lights/signs above a few feet were
obscured in a smoke-filled cabin.
