Does anyone know status of the PowerFLARM certification for the FAA approved Flight Recorder.
Here among my firend it is a common consent that we would rather invest in PowerFLARM then any other Flight Recorder - IF PowerFLARM would be fully certified. However it appears that we can not get a CLEAR picture on where PowerFLARM stands right now. Yahh, we would like to take advantage of the preorder discount, that is 4 sure... and commit to overall saftety as well.. Thank You in advance for sharing any updates on this issue.. You probably mean "FAI" approved.
My understanding is the logger function will be approved for everything except world records. Tom Knauff Knauff & Grove Soaring Supplies |

The link posted by Dave 'YO' contains the sentence:
'The USA PowerFLARM will include a flight recorder approved by IGC through diamond badges.' This is mildly presumptious since it has not yet been submitted for approval by the body set up by IGC to approve IGC Flight Recorders. It is of course the case that eventually (although in some cases after significant modification) virtually all FRs which have applied for approval have eventually been approved. Presumably the manufacturers of a device sold as an approved flight recorder will carry out any modifications that may be required for approval.
