Once again the right engine feathered and shut down after landing. It only
happenes when the engine is hot. If we just make a lap around the field and land everythings fine. We took it up for 20 min and landed and the right side did it again. I just got the props back from the prop shop the 2nd time to get looked over. I also sent both governors out and was told the right engine governor was beyand repair, so I got an overhauled one . We have no Idea what is going on. The main bearings hold 42 psi and the cylinders are 80/80 and the engine has 40 hour since OH. The right side oil temp and pressure are higher then the left side and the cylinder head temps are the same. After landing the Oil pressure on both engines goes to about 20-30 psi and the right side oil temp is a little higher then the left . Any Ideas ? |

I'm no A&P, but I suggested before that you might want to
look at the transfer collar. A worn collar exhibits the same characteristics as a bad governor. The fact that you are only 40 hrs since an OH suggests that perhaps they didn't properly prime the system with oil prior to the first start, since the tolerances are extremely tight and improper run-in is a known cause of problems. You can test the collar without engine disassembly. Basically, you warm the engine up & do a pressure test on the oil flowing to the collar with the same equipment used for cylinder testing. You remove the governor & inject the air on the output side of the gasket. You should get about 60/80. Weak/marginal collars test at 52/80, and mean you'll probably have to pull the engine to replace it. Full details in "Light Plane Maintenance", June 2003, page 15. Hope this helps. How's everyone doing?
Friday we performed the test on the bearing and it was reading "0 psi". So on Saturday we took the right engine apart. I don't understand 30 hours since Oh and the main bearing is bad? I will let everyone know what happenes Monday. |
