Make lots of money!
You first need a career capable of supporting "aviation". Then you need to get other obligations (like raising kids, paying down the mortage, saving for retirement) out of the way. 2. Look up "Airports - flight training" in the yellow pages.
3. Visit every one of these training schools. Good advice, but this can be problematic in much of the country. I'd bet 90% of the U.S. doesn't have more than one choice of flight school within a reasonable distance. Of course, in Florida and California, you might have a dozen within an hour's drive...
