I think google changed its groups without telling anyone

This is the second protracted lack of service. It was sporadic between
the two 'outages'. I suspect they've actually exceeded their capacity with
the new Google Plus testing, as they've suspended invitations with the
admission that they've exceeded their capacity. Saw an article recently
that said it was the largest start up ever (22m+ users?). Just a guess
that's all running in parallel to existing offerings on existing servers,
so they've prioritized what's available. Groups are high volume, low
return. There was some short unavailability of all things Google on Monday
AM, so I think they were playing with their DNS for a bit.

Other than as a "work around" when you are using somebody else's computer; why
would anyone use Google Groups to access Usenet groups? For one thing, Google
Groups is full of spam. There are much better ways to access ras. Virtually
any other way you choose will be better and faster.

i couldn't get outlook to work at work for reading RAS, i don't have/use
outlook at home, and like to access ras from multiple computers. Spam has
(had) gotten a lot better on google groups recently. it still showed up
occasionally but was quickly removed. i guess its back to
ras.gliderpilot.net for me

Hi Tony,

Outlook doesn't work. You need to use Outlook Express (Windows XP) or
"Windows Mail" (Vista or 7). It is pretty easy to setup. Give me a call if
you need help.

Au contraire Paul, there are news reader plugins for some versions of
Outlook, but Tony doesn't have it at home and may not be able to muck
around with the work PC much.

Windows Live Mail works for Windows 7 and as you point out Windows Mail
for Vista.

outlook at home, and like to access ras from multiple computers. Spam has

Outlook Express, not Outlook. Despite the similar name, they are two totally
different programs.

I've been using Outlook Express for years now. Many will tell you that there
are better newsreader programs out there, and they are likely right. I've just
found that OE meets my needs, and never had reason to look further.
