Actually, it was reportedly removed because one of the Rolls Royce test
pilots was too tall to fit in the cockpit comfortably. Then they lost the
canopy:

I quote from an entry regarding DG 200 in "The Captive Luftwaffe",

"Some time earlier it had lost its original cockpit canopy, this
presumably being removed to accommodate test pilot Harvey Heyworth who
was over six feet tall.
