Many years ago I saw a picture of a fuselage dolly that had an over
center mechanism to raise and lower the glider. I believe it was on two place glider. The wheels stayed in place on the ramp and the fuselage went up and down about four inches. Anyone have a link to the photo or know the webpage? |

I can't find a picture on the web but I can describe one and I'll shoot a cell-phone picture the next time I'm at the airport. Imagine a roughly 20" square steel frame with 4 small wheels which roll on up the tail ramp into the trailer. The frame has a lateral hinge in the middle so it can raise up like a cat arching its back. There's a removable, meter long lever which inserts into a short tube on the rearward section to lever it into the arched position raising the fuselage in the process. A metal tab hinges down to lock the dolly in the "UP" position. The fuselage saddle can rock fore and aft so fits against the glider in both the "up" and "down" positions. The CAP has an ASK-21 and Cobra trailer which came with this dolly. A 12 year old Cadet can lift the whole glider in preparation for de-rigging. It's a really slick fuselage dolly. |
