It says that the fly with ce is now approved for silver badge flights..
BUT.... If I am reading the rules correctly...it seems that you must also carry an additional, approved, calibrated, pressure altitude recording device? Is this the case? If so, what is the point of the fly with ce? As in silver climb....and loss of altitude in silver distance? Cookie |

Short answer is that this WAS the case when GPS Position recorders were first approved and when the current approvals were posted to the IGC website. Kind of explains why the concept of GPS Position Recorders didn't exactly take off.
Under the October 2012 revision to the Sporting Code, GPS Position Recorders which provide only GPS altitude CAN be used on a standalone basis. SSA and other NACs are in the process of reviewing several models. FlyWitCE FR300 should be officially posted any day mow. Do carefully read section 4 and Annex C; there is a 100m additional margin required for flights documented using only GPS. More detailed answer when I'm on a proper keyboard and not this tablet. Erik...
Thanks.....I finally got to the correct sections of the sporting code and the annex...... The SSA is misleading .... So basically we just 100 meters to everything... 1100 meters for silver climb......... 3100 meters for gold climb 1% rule for silver distance...but 100 meters higher than that at finish... etc.. Now that I'm on a real keyboard...
The IGC made it possible for standalone GPS Position Recorders to document Silver and Gold badges effective last October. However, it is up to the individual NACs to identify and approve specific devices in collaboration with the IGC's GFAC (the group that oversees all things GPS/Flight Recorder). As of right now, the SSA is in the final stages of getting approval for the FlyWithCE FR300 posted to the IGC Website. I know a couple of other countries are in the same boat. Note that the devices that are currently up on the IGC Website were all approved under the prior rules which required the use of a separate Barograph. Some of those devices may be re-approved under the new rules. Clear as mud? P3 On Tuesday, August 20, 2013 6:38:15 AM UTC-4, Cookie wrote: Erik...
