I have been looking at some satellite photos on the web and I got to
thinking, I wonder if they have ever snapped a photo just as an airplane was flying by. Has anyone ever seen that in a satellite photo? Some of them are pretty detailed and you could easily make out the bigger planes. -- Chris W Bring Back the HP 15C http://hp15c.org Not getting the gifts you want? Microsoft's TerraServer has satellite images of pretty much the entire US. I don't have a specific link at my fingertips, but over the years, various TerraServer links have been posted to newsgroups containing images of larger airliners (either approaching or departing the airport, never en route) and aircraft shadows near airports. If you have some time, go here, then zoom into a few of the major airports. You just might find a few: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ -- Peter |

If you look closely at the posters of the grounds that EAA was selling at
Oshkosh this year, you can clearly see several planes in the air. I don't know if that was a satellite photo, or just a very high altitude aerial photo -- but it's kind of cool to see an airplane in flight. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I don't know about Terraserver, but I've found several planes using NVidia's
Keyhole Earthviewer. Example: http://www.togo84.com/satplane.jpg This is on final approach to KSAN. A little plug for Earthviewer - the service is $5.95/month, and definitely worth it in my opinion. There's a remarkable amount of coverage at high resolution (large metropolitan areas, mostly), though there's also low resolution coverage of the entire US (lower still in the rest of the world). They're expanding, though. I use the program to take a look at airports I'm flying to so I have a better idea of what's in store before hand. One of the coolest things is that it retrieves elevation data and lets you look at surrounding terrain in 3d. -Tony Student Pilot 31.3 hours "Chris W" wrote I have been looking at some satellite photos on the web and I got to thinking, I wonder if they have ever snapped a photo just as an airplane was flying by.
