Does anyone know what the penalty is for busting a Presidential TFR?
I've talked with a controller and AOPA and their opinions are pretty varied...Don't ask why I want to know this, it's embarassing! |

The ones I have known got off with nothing more than a phone call.

It's been funny, listening to ATC in the hotel lobby today, with the
President just to the North of us in Cedar Rapids. We are just outside of the TFR, but not by much -- and EVERYONE is paranoid. Good pilots are repeatedly asking CID if they are clear of the TFR area. As always, our excellent ATC staff is helpful and friendly -- even with Air Force One on the ramp. Thus far, I've only heard one doofus. A biz jet came blasting into the area, inbound for landing, and casually asked CID if the airport was open for business. I didn't catch the answer, dang it, but I'll bet it was good. Honestly, who would fly a biz jet, VFR (I'm guessing), without getting a briefing? -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

(Don't laugh -- a few years ago at a safety seminar in the DC area one of the local inspectors noted that he had recently given remedial training to a pilot who had busted the Dulles TCA. The pilot's resume included a period as Administrator of the FAA, although he had left the position before the incident.) Joe Morris |

I don't believe there's any uniform penalty - it seems to vary from one
incident to another. Let's hope you catch them on a day when they're in a good mood. -- David Herman N6170T 1965 Cessna 150E Boeing Field (BFI), Seattle, WA - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Visit the Pacific Northwest Flying Forum: http://www.pacificnorthwestflying.com "Magellan" wrote in message m... I heard one conversation on guard over Maine where the AF was telling a plane "small aircraft traveling heading 120 near xxx leave the area immediately and call the FAA, you have just entered a presidental flight restricted area" I wonder if they called? The station identified itself as Air Force, but didn't seem much interested in tracking the intruder, just getting them out of the area. |
