What the heck are they putting in TVs these days? It isn't just TVs. I'll let one of the local radioheads do the technical explination, but basically, any thing electronic emits some RFI. With bad parts, bad QA or parts failure, it can emit enough RFI on the wrong frequencies to get a visit from CAP. That is why you see FCC compliance stickers on most things electronic. When I was in CAP, I tracked a 121.5 MHz signal to a fax machine, and other people I knew found copiers, computers, arcade games and a pizza oven in distress. None of these had the normal ELT `sweep` signal, just a carrier signal. Unfortunately, real ELTs that are damaged in the crash will sometimes just have a carrier only signal as well, so it isn't possible to just ignore carrier only signals. Awww... I was just going to post this one! But at least it gives us a new
excuse if one of our landings ever triggers the ELT. "No, no, no...", we will claim, "That's not from my landings. I bet one of these guys in these T-hangars just has a TV going somewhere!" --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Check out http://www.aerorfi.org/
I found out about this checking out noise on a approach control frequency a couple of years ago. The FAA investigator told me of one of his cases tracking down a signal blanking 121.5 in NW Arkansas. It turned out to be the new vision screen at the University of Arkansas football stadium, He told an interesting story of finding the problem and correcting it. Ross No UoA jokes. That has nothing to do with the reply. GO Hogs! Aardvark wrote: Link http://www.katu.com/news/story.asp?ID=71894 Shorterlink http://makeashorterlink.com/?T5F061F89 |
