Apparently he was never cleared for the approach in to Teterboro (NJ - USA)? From the article: "And the control tower said, 'What are you doing?' And I said, 'I'm following the approach.' They said, 'You weren't cleared for 2,000 feet, go back up.' If you change your altitude by five hundred feet the computer automatically catches it." -- Peter |

[from the article...]
The actor explains, "I'm being censored by the FAA and they're going to ground me. The hardest thing about flying is holding altitude. It's a three-dimensional effort." Hopefully a transcription error. I think Morgan Freeman is smart enough to say "censured" when he means "censured". I don't have similar faith in reporters. -- Paul Tomblin http://xcski.com/blogs/pt/ I'm pro-lifevest and I boat. |

However, descending from an assigned IFR altitude without benefit of ATC clearance seems to have been an unfortunate oversight. He'll learn a lot from the experience. |

I'm guessing that the statement that the article was quoting was not from a written source, but from an interview. I doubt while Morgan Freeman was explaining, he spelled out his words for the interviewer... That said, just because Morgan Freeman usually plays extremely smart characters doesn't necessarily make him very smart himself. It's called Acting, and it involves reading from a script. ![]() But the fact that he used the term in proper context implies that he is at least smarter than the fellow who wrote the article (who must have had first amendment on the brain at the time)! ![]() |
