What model of radio? you can alway buy a nice discone antenna will add some
dustance but if you have a cheap radio nothing will help much. "northernsurferboy" wrote in message ... I got a cheap radio shack airplane scanner. It works great when I sit in the airport parking lot but 5 km out it does nothing. I live about 15 km from a small airport and 40 from Pearson Internation Airport. Is there a external antenna I can clip on to this thing to boost its receiving capabilites? |

It's important to have a visual path between the transmitter and receiver, so antenna height is part of the issue. Here's something you should find interesting: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/... 6e6620c29b95 Now how about answering one for me. Why did you find it necessary to cross post your inquiry to the binary newsgroups? rec.aviation.piloting alt.binaries.multimedia.aviation alt.binaries.pictures.aviation alt.aviation.student |

Just remember, VHF comm is line of site. If you can't see it, you can't
hear it (well sort of). I can't hear the tower on the airfield sometimes with the large hangars in the way. Our TX antennae are less than 50 feet above the ground, often less than 20. You should have no problem picking up aircraft, though. northernsurferboy wrote: I got a cheap radio shack airplane scanner.
