I need to learn good old fashioned dope and fabric work, you know, using
butyrate dope and real cotton fabric. I'm building a 1920s replica, want to make it authentic as possible. My question -- will the EAA Fabric Covering workshop be useful? Even if they use "the Poly Fiber covering process?" Is there much difference between modern fabric covering processes and the old way? thanks, -- David Hill david at hillREMOVETHISfamily.org Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, USA |

David...
Check the bulletin board on the National Aeronca Association page (http://www.aeroncapilots.com/disc/)... Somewhere a while pack, somebody posted an ad that they still did Grade A work... David,
Try contacting Ross Walton at Vintage Aero Fabrics. If he can't help ya, then he'll probably know someone who can. He's also a good source for the correct type of cotton. I used his "early glider cotton" on my Wright machine and was very impressed with its accuracy and quality. I've also spoken to a guy who used his losenge (sp?) fabric and was very happy with it. Harry Thanks, Harry. I think you told me about him when we met last year. I was thinking of him only as a source for fabric, not for training. I'll give him a shot. -- David Hill david at hillREMOVETHISfamily.org Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, USA |

David,
Don't know if he does training or anything like it. But I figure that he is probably a good source for information. And he might be able to direct you toward someone who does or can at least help you out. Harry |

Had to go back and dig up posts from a week ago. But, now that I've done that -- I emailed Ross Walton at Vintage Aero Fabrics, and he sent me a sheet of instructions for applying cotton fabric. It references a couple of other sources for some of the detail, but it helps. I've also gotten a couple of responses off list that were helpful. thanks, -- David Hill david at hillREMOVETHISfamily.org Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, USA filters, they're not just for coffee anymore The following needn't bother to reply, you are filtered: Juan E Jimenez, Barnyard BOb |
