Is there a FAA issued manual for helicopter designated flight
examiners? If yes, is it somewhere online? Friend of mine wants to be sure he has all requirements met for taking his flight exam. Different flight instructors tell him he needs different things before taking his check ride. He would like to read the current requirements. One of the items in question is the requirement to have a gps installed in the helicopter used for check ride. Anyone have thoughts on this? |

The bset thing to read is the "Practical Test Standards" manual. It
covers what you need to know well. These are available everywhere, and a look at faa.gov will probably yield a PDF copy. GPS: If a piece of equipment is installed in the machine that will be used in a checkride the PIC must know its functionality and be able to demonstrate its use. For a private checkride there's no requirement to know GPS use unless its installed and not marked inop before the ride. Knowledge of Pilotage and Dead Reckoning is probably a far more important skill to be able to demonstrate. Bart Eric D wrote: Is there a FAA issued manual for helicopter designated flight examiners?
