Hi Ben,
I run TopHat on a Kobo mini as a backup to the Big Kobo. One issue , if your running terrain the mini will lock up the screen, without Terrain no issues. On the large Kobo, no issues, has never failed on me yet.. GL t 21:41 04 October 2014, Ben S wrote: Are you running Top Hat? What do you think? Any chance you are running Top Hat on a Kobo mini? I'm running top hat on my kobo mini with a LX Nav Nano3 acting as the GPS/Baro engine.
I LOVE THIS SETUP I have had one freeze up in about 8 hours of soaring with it. It was at the end of a four hour flight on final glide. You can reset the Kobo by applying external power to it when it does freeze (I have 5v power source in my DG 100). I was running terrain in both instances. I will try without terrain to prevent further freeze ups. I was unaware that it was the cause of the bug. I highly recommended this setup. I'm not sure why manufacturers have not started producing eINK readers for GPS navigation in gliders. It is far superior for direct sunlight reading than even the newer Udie's. Much less eye fatigue trying to squint or lower your sunglasses to read the screen's info. |

I also use a kobo mini with tophat. I sent off for a 3d printed case with a compartment for an internal mounted gps. I am very happy with it. I used it all summer. Here are the instructions i followed to assemble mine.

Hi PBA,
Please email me your .igc file along with your Top Hat settings, task, and map files when you experienced the freeze. Along with any other details you have. I'll create a bug ticket for this. Kobo is connected only to ship's power and a puck GPS with an OTG "Y" cable. Generally do not turn on terrain option. Has never locked up. Easiest to configure and use system ever. Visibility far better than non-eInk systems. VERY happy with TOP HAT on Kobo Mini. |

Kobo Mini's are no longer produced and in high demand with hang glider pilots so getting harder to come by. eBay is likely your best bet. You may have to settle on white!

This site still has a few Kobo Mini's left. $59 new, but only white left.
