Is there a variometer out there that hides behind your instrument panel without a face that streams the information to a PDA running soaring software?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l1cHD1uil8 Might be some other PG/HG varios that do the same thing. I don't follow the market that closely.

Those look like neat little toys.
But nowhere did I see the words, "total energy" or "compensation". I also didn't see any P, S, or TE inputs. Are we to assume it has electronic TE compensation or is that left to the user to figure out? In general these low cost varios do not have any total energy compensation. They are designed for hang glider and paraglider use. Because HG and PG are light weight they don't carry much inertial energy so they don't suffer much from stick thermals. Using them in a sailplane will result in some degree of false lift indications unless you only pay attention to it when at a slow and steady speed.
