Hi,
I will be giving a talk at the SSA convention at 1 PM on Thursday on the topic "Soaring Flight Computer Comparison". I am determined to give an unbiased look at all the available flight computer/logger systems. As you may know, I am a dealer for Cambridge Aero Instruments, and I sell and support Glide Navigator II software. I have never flown with anything other than Cambridge products, so I need your help to make my presentation correct. I have already done a lot of research on the web. I have updated my "Soaring Flight Computer Comparison" spreadsheet as a starting point for the presentation. I would greatly appreciate any specific feedback you can offer to help me complete and correct the spreadsheet. It is available at: http://www.cumulus-soaring.com/files...Comparison.pdf I would also appreciate 1st hand feedback on the flight computer system you fly with. I'm looking for quotes for the presentation. I'd love quotes like, "I love the thermal strength vs. altitude graph in my SN-10". I will only use your name if you tell me it is OK to do so. This newsgroup is a great connection to soaring pilots with vast experience with various flight computer systems. I would greatly appreciate your help. You can reply to this newsgroup, or to me directly. Thank you, Paul Remde Cumulus Soaring Supplies http://www.cumulus-soaring.com |

Hi Jack,
The link works for me if I make sure to copy all the text. I see that the "pdf" wrapped to the next line below. You can access the file by going to http://www.cumulus-soaring.com and clicking on the link to the Soaring Flight Computer Comparison. It is just above all the product images near the bottom of the page. Thanks, Paul Remde "Jack" wrote in message ... Here's the link I dragged from your web page, and it won't work for me even right from the home page itself. http://www.soarmn.com/cumulus/files/...r%20Comparison Maybe it's my CPU/sw combination, but others seem to work OK, so I have no remaining clue. Thanks for following up. I look forward to reading your comparison, since I won't be at the convention and I am in the market for that sort of equipment. ------- Jack ------- |

Hi, I will be giving a talk at the SSA convention at 1 PM on Thursday on the topic "Soaring Flight Computer Comparison". I am determined to give an unbiased look at all the available flight computer/logger systems. Paul, Your spread sheet includes "Turn Area Task Support" yes/no. I don't thnk a yes/no answer is useful. There are many factors that have to be considered when judging how well a a particular system supports area tasks. Two key issues are 1. the accuracy of the estimated time to complete task considering current winds, and 2. the ease of switching to the next leg and updating the current area turn point. Given the popularity of area tasks at regional and national level in USA, the quality of support for area tasks may be key discriminator in selecting a system. Andy |

Hi, I will be giving a talk at the SSA convention at 1 PM on Thursday on the topic "Soaring Flight Computer Comparison". I am determined to give an unbiased look at all the available flight computer/logger systems. Paul, I wonder if you could add the combination of Borgelt B50, Soaring Pilot, and any GPS? I think this might be a really good, budget setup, but it would be nice to see a comparison. Thanks Cheaply Yours, Shawn |

Hi,
I agree that turnpoint area task support is not a simple yes/no statement, but I'm not sure how to make the spreadsheet address any differences. Certainly this is a matter of opinion. Any suggestions? Thanks, Paul Remde "Andy Durbin" wrote in message om... "Paul Remde" wrote in message news:P6XRb.175449$xy6.819757@attbi_s02... CEGlide isn't included http://www.ccsi.com/~inadas/ . I've used CEGlide
connected to a $95 Garmin, to a Volkslogger, and now to a Cambridge. Because the polar formula is constructed from as many points along the curve as you want/can define, I believe the speed to fly information is better in CEGlide. I nailed a 40nm final glide in a PW5 using CEGlide, so you know the gravity polarity reversal feature works right too ;-) Brent "Paul Remde" wrote in message news:P6XRb.175449$xy6.819757@attbi_s02...
