I just bought a DG-101 and was trying to figure out if turbulator tape
would help the performance. I sent that question to the general DG factory email account ) and got a nice reply from Wilhelm Dirks (Chief Designer!). His response was succinct; "Turbulators won't make sense on the profiles used." Nuf said...but I wonder why. Thanks, John |

To express it simply:
Modern profiles create a bubble because the max thickness is put way to the leading edge in order to increase the laminar flow length on the lower surface, and turbulators help to destroy this bubble. Earlier profiles are designed differently and don't tend to have this bubble, so a turbulator is completely useless (at best). -- Bert Willing ASW20 "TW" "John DeRosa Sky Soaring Chicago IL" a écrit dans le message de om... Bret - Thanks for your answer. This is amazingly similar to the
answer I got from Wilhelm Dirks today; "Modern wing sections are designed with a steep pressure increase at the lower surface at about 80% chord to achieve long laminar flow. The steep pressure increase will form a laminar bubble which will be eliminated by the turbulator. Older sections have the pressure increase beginning at 50%, so there will be no bubble which must be destroyed by turbulators." Thanks again, John "Bert Willing" wrote in message ...
