Marfa, Texas 2004 soaring events
MARFA 2004
APRIL 3 - 11: Dick Johnson's annual Marfa Wave Camp, with guest instuctor Bob Wander, author of many soaring books and mentor to thousands of glider pilots. MAY 28 - 30: "Wings and Wheels" Memorial Day weekend Fly-In for airplanes, gliders, vintage cars and motorcycles. Pancake breakfast with 10 knot thermals for lunch. JUNE 1 - JULY 15: Texas Glider Rally - our annual soaring camp. (with our 5,000' airport elevation, summer temps are not extremely hot, yet cloudbases are very high, on our "dry side" of the Marfa Dew Point Line.) Tows and instruction available year-round. Marfa is located between Carlsbad Caverns and Big Bend National Parks in far west Texas. Site of many US Nationals and the 1970 World Soaring Contest, and where "The Sun Ship Game" soaring movie was filmed.
